Alkaram sale on festive suits: 8 wedding-guest picks at 20 to 25% off

Wedding season has started, and Alkaram Studio is selling a good part of its ready-to-stitch festive range at 20 to 25% off on its website. The reductions are shown on each product page, with the original price crossed out, so you can see exactly what you save. We went through the festive and wedding pieces and picked eight for guests, from a Rs 4,493 silk to a Rs 17,592 organza. Prices were checked on Wednesday, 4 November.

One thing to know first: several of these designs were first released in earlier festive drops, so they are not all new this season. For a wedding guest that rarely matters, but if you want this year’s newest look, the cotton satin and dobby suits (codes ending in 26) are the recent ones.

The three formals (Rs 15,992 to Rs 17,592)

Off-white zari net (Rs 16,792, was Rs 20,990). A four-piece with a hand-embellished centre panel, side panels and sleeves on zari net, two sets of organza borders, a cotton silk inner and a raw silk trouser. The dupatta is printed cotton net in soft blue and pink. Ivory and pastel is the safest valima look there is.

Blush pink organza (Rs 17,592, was Rs 21,990). Five metres of organza for the shirt, sixteen embroidered kalis and a separate waist border: this is cut for a long, flared kalidar or a pishwas. With a raw silk trouser and an embroidered organza dupatta, it is the most bridal-feeling suit here, ideal for the bride’s sister.

Maroon raw silk (Rs 15,992, was Rs 19,990). Hand-embellished panels, sleeves and organza corner patches on raw silk, with a hand-embellished poly net dupatta. Deep maroon is perfect for a winter baraat.

Mid-range festive (Rs 7,192)

Three suits from the newer festive line, all Rs 7,192 (was Rs 8,990), each with organza borders for the tailor:

Purple cotton satin with gold embroidery and a printed chiffon dupatta. Rich and warm-looking, and satin has a natural sheen under lights.

Rust cotton satin with gold embroidery and a printed chiffon dupatta. Rust is the colour of this winter and suits wheatish skin especially well.

Pink dobby with an embroidered printed silk dupatta and a cambric trouser. Lighter in feel, good for a daytime nikkah.

The two budget picks

Maroon khaddar with shawl (Rs 9,743, was Rs 12,990). An embroidered khaddar shirt with organza borders, a yarn-dyed shawl and khaddar trousers. This is the one for an outdoor mehndi on a cold night.

Periwinkle chamois silk (Rs 4,493, was Rs 5,990). A printed chamois silk shirt and trouser with a tissue silk dupatta. Not heavy work, but at this price it is a neat dholki or family-dinner outfit.

Before you buy

All of these are unstitched, and formals with kalis and borders need time: give your tailor two to three weeks. Alkaram’s pages show stock warnings on some pieces (the off-white showed “only 3 left” when we checked), so sizes and stock can change quickly. Check the returns policy on the site, because sale terms can differ.
