Pakistan vs Oman, Hong Kong Sixes Plate final: Abbas Afridi's 11 sixes win it
Abbas Afridi smashed 73 not out off 16 balls with 11 sixes as Pakistan beat Oman by 18 runs to win the Hong Kong Sixes 2026 Plate on Sunday.

Pakistan beat Oman by 18 runs in the Plate final of the Hong Kong Sixes on Sunday, 1 November, with captain Abbas Afridi hitting 73 not out off just 16 balls, including 11 sixes. It ends the defending champions’ weekend with a trophy, even if not the one they came for.
Since our last report on the win over India, Pakistan lost their chance at the main Cup and had to settle for the Plate, the competition for teams that miss the Cup semi-finals.
The match in short
- Pakistan: 154/4 in 6 overs (Abbas Afridi 73* off 16, Abdul Samad 32 off 7, Ahmed Daniyal 25* off 5)
- Oman: 136/4 in 6 overs (Usman Ali 67* off 17, Zohaib Amanat 61* off 18)
- Result: Pakistan won by 18 runs
- Player of the match: Abbas Afridi
How Pakistan got to 154
Oman won the toss at the Mission Road Ground in Mong Kok and chose to bowl, and it looked smart when wicketkeeper Khawaja Nafay fell for 7 in the first over. Then Afridi took over. Of his 16 balls, 11 went over the rope. Abdul Samad added 32 off seven balls, and Ahmed Daniyal finished with four sixes in a 25 not out off five.
Muzahir Raza was Oman’s best bowler with two wickets, but his two overs went for 46. In six-a-side cricket, where every over is a chance to score 30, 154 is a big but not safe total.
Oman made a real game of it
Oman’s reply was no walkover. Usman Ali (67 not out off 17) and Zohaib Amanat (61 not out off 18) hit eight sixes each and had Oman 99 after four overs. Ahmed Daniyal then ran out captain Aamir Kaleem, and with 56 still needed off the last two overs, Oman finished on 136.
How Pakistan ended up in the Plate
Pakistan arrived as the six-time champions and defending title-holders. They lost their opener to the UAE by one wicket off the last ball, despite Afridi’s 53, then thrashed India, chasing 89 in 3.5 overs. That was not enough: the UAE won both group games and topped Group C, so Pakistan went into the Plate.
There they beat hosts Hong Kong in the semi-final on Saturday, chasing 107 in 4.3 overs with Afridi’s 55 off 13 balls, before Sunday’s win over Oman. Winning the Plate means Pakistan finish fifth overall.
Afridi’s tournament
Afridi made 53, 35, 55 and now 73 not out across his four innings, 216 runs in all. Last year he hit six sixes in an over against Kuwait on the way to the title. This time the main trophy got away, but he leaves Hong Kong with the player of the match award from the final.
The Cup final between Australia and Afghanistan was due to follow later on Sunday.
