Closed shoes are back on the shopping list now that the mornings have turned cold, and Borjan has filled its women’s section with new moccasins, ballerinas and low-heel court shoes this week. Prices start at Rs 4,000 and the dearest of our picks is Rs 9,500. We went through the new arrivals on Borjan’s website and checked prices and sizes on Friday, 6 November.

Most styles come in sizes 36 to 41, and a few go up to 42. All eight below had every listed size in stock when we looked.

Moccasins for everyday (Rs 4,000 to Rs 9,500)

The big trend in Borjan’s new batch is the dressed-up moccasin: a soft slip-on with a metal or crystal buckle on top and a thick, ridged white sole. They look smart with straight trousers and a kurta, and the chunky sole helps on long days at university or the office.

Tan moccasin with a crystal buckle (Rs 9,500). A camel-tan suede-look upper with a jewelled bit buckle. The priciest pick here, and the most eye-catching.

Burgundy moccasin with a gold horsebit (Rs 8,900). A deep wine colour that works with black, grey and cream winter suits. It also comes in camel.

Blush moccasin with a square crystal buckle (Rs 7,900). Borjan lists the colour as grey, but in its photos it reads as a soft blush-taupe. The square sparkling buckle makes it the dressiest of the moccasins, good for a dawat.

Brown moccasin with a gold bar (Rs 4,000). The plainest and cheapest: a brown upper with a slim gold bar and a flat white sole. If you want one pair for daily wear, this is the one.

Ballerinas (Rs 4,000 to Rs 6,000)

Golden mesh ballerina with a bow (Rs 4,000). A sheer mesh flat with a gold trim and a sparkly bow on the toe. It is a lovely partner for a festive suit when you don’t want heels at a mehndi, and it also comes in silver.

Bronze woven ballerina (Rs 6,000). A brown openwork knit flat with a rounded toe. It is the lightest-looking shoe here and works with jeans and casual kurtas.

Low-heel court shoes (Rs 5,100 to Rs 5,200)

Both have pointed toes and a short, stable block heel, which makes them easy to walk in at long wedding events.

Golden court shoe with a crystal bow (Rs 5,100). A pale gold pump with a jewelled bow on the toe. It suits light, pastel and ivory outfits.

Maroon court shoe with a gold buckle (Rs 5,200). A dark maroon pump with a square gold buckle. Office-smart, and it matches the velvet and burgundy suits that are everywhere this season. It also comes in beige.

Which pair should you buy?

For daily wear, the Rs 4,000 brown moccasin is the best value. For the wedding season, the low-heel court shoes give you some height without sore feet by the end of the night. Order your usual Borjan size; if you are between sizes in a closed shoe like a moccasin, go half a size up for winter socks.
