Barcelona beat Deportivo Alavés 6-1 at Camp Nou on Saturday night, 31 October, and went back to the top of La Liga, two points clear of Atlético Madrid. “Barcelona vs Alaves standings” was one of the top searches in Pakistan overnight, as fans checked whether the win was enough to move Hansi Flick’s side above both Madrid clubs.

How the goals went

It was over by half-time. Raphinha opened the scoring in the 8th minute from a Fermín López pass, and Fermín added the second himself in the 23rd. Raphinha got his second just before the break, his 15th league goal of the season, and Lamine Yamal made it 4-0 in stoppage time.

Yamal scored again in the 64th minute, and substitute Anthony Gordon made it six in the 81st. Mariano Díaz pulled one back for Alavés in the 84th minute.

La Liga table after Barcelona 6-1 Alavés

Barcelona have 27 points from 11 games and lead Atlético Madrid by two. Real Madrid are third and visit Racing Santander on Sunday, so the gap to them can change before the weekend is out.

The goals tell the story of Barca’s season: 46 in 11 league matches.

Why this win mattered

Barcelona came into the game after two painful defeats, against Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League and against Real Madrid in El Clásico. A third bad result would have turned a wobble into a crisis.

Fermín López, who scored once and set up two, said after the match it had been “a hard week” and that there was no better place than Camp Nou to bounce back. He gave the credit to the front two: “They make the difference, Lamine and Raphinha.”

On the Alavés side, midfielder Ander Guevara said his team had to “turn the page quickly.”

What’s next for Barcelona?

A big week. Barcelona host Aston Villa in the Champions League on Tuesday, 3 November, then travel to Atlético Madrid next Sunday in a game that could decide who leads La Liga. For Pakistani fans, weekend La Liga matches usually kick off late at night or after midnight Pakistan time, so check the exact time on the day.
