Shah Rukh Khan turns 61: Mumbai's Sea Link lights up for 'King' as fans wait for a surprise
Mumbai's Bandra-Worli Sea Link lit up for Shah Rukh Khan ahead of his 61st birthday on 2 November. What the display showed and what is known about King.

Shah Rukh Khan turns 61 on Monday, 2 November, and Mumbai started the party early. The Bandra-Worli Sea Link, the cable bridge across the city’s bay, lit up with a tribute calling the actor the city’s “KING”, with a countdown that read “2 days to go”.
Shah Rukh shared a picture of the display himself, which sent fans into a guessing game. King is the name of his next film, and the bridge’s styling matched the film’s look.
The film behind the lights
King is directed by Siddharth Anand, who also made Pathaan with him, and is produced by Red Chillies Entertainment and Marflix Pictures. Shah Rukh has announced that it will release in cinemas on 24 December 2026, Christmas Eve. It is also his first film with his daughter, Suhana Khan.
What fans expect, and what is confirmed
Indian entertainment sites are reporting that the makers will mark the birthday with something from the film: some say the first song, some say a new teaser, and one says a stadium-sized screen has gone up behind the gate of Mannat, his house in Bandra, to show it at midnight. None of this has been confirmed by Red Chillies or by Shah Rukh, so treat it as fan buzz until it appears on the official accounts.
Whether he will step out to greet the crowd is also unclear. For years his birthday ritual was waving from the Mannat balcony to thousands of fans on the road outside. Mannat is now under renovation, and last year he said on X that he would not be able to come out to meet fans for safety reasons.
Why Pakistan cares
Shah Rukh has one of the biggest fan bases in Pakistan of any Indian star, from Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge to Jawan, and his birthday trends here every year. Indian films have not been released in Pakistani cinemas since 2019, so for most fans here King will arrive on streaming later. A teaser or song on YouTube is the part they can watch on the day.
If the makers do drop something, expect it around midnight Indian time, which is 11:30 PM on Sunday in Pakistan.
