“Tu Mil Jaaye”, the first song from Shah Rukh Khan’s action film King, came out on Sunday night, 1 November, his 61st birthday. It pairs Arijit Singh with Ed Sheeran, and passed 2.5 million views on YouTube within about seven hours of going live on the T-Series channel. By Monday morning it was at the top of YouTube’s trending list in India and on the list in Pakistan too.

Who made Tu Mil Jaaye?

The song is composed by Sachin-Jigar, with lyrics by Kumaar. Arijit Singh and Madhubanti Bagchi sing the Hindi parts, and Ed Sheeran features with an English section, credited to his labels Interscope and Gingerbread Man Records. Sheeran has collaborated with Indian and Punjabi artists before, including Arijit Singh on a remix of “Sapphire” and Karan Aujla.

On paper it is a very safe bet: the biggest voice in Bollywood romance, the biggest pop star to visit India in years, and a composer duo who know how to build a chorus.

What the video shows

The 3 minute 43 second video has Shah Rukh and Deepika Padukone on beaches and in foreign locations, with a lot of attention on SRK’s toned, shirtless look at 61. Between the romantic shots, it cuts to action scenes of him fighting off a rival gang, which is the film’s pitch in one line: love and gunfire.

The film’s own tagline, written in the song’s description, is “Of Love and other Battles”. Shah Rukh shared the song with the line “This December, #LoveLikeAKing”.

SRK and Deepika first starred together in Om Shanti Om in 2007, and King reunites them after Pathaan and Jawan in 2023.

Our take

The chemistry is the selling point and it works; these two are still easy to watch together. The weak spot is the song itself on first listen: Arijit is excellent as always, but the English section can feel stitched in rather than part of the melody. Big film songs often grow after the movie is out, so the real test is whether it is still being played in January.

King release date and cast

King is directed by Siddharth Anand, who made Pathaan, and produced by Red Chillies Entertainment with Marflix Pictures. It releases in cinemas on 24 December 2026. Besides SRK and Deepika, the cast includes Suhana Khan, Abhishek Bachchan, Rani Mukerji, Arshad Warsi, Jaideep Ahlawat, Jackie Shroff and Raghav Juyal.

Indian films are not released in Pakistani cinemas, so viewers here will be waiting for the streaming release, but the song is free to watch on YouTube now.
