Hussain Rehar has released its winter karandi line, Kot Radha Kishan, on its website, and it is one of the more colourful winter drops this season. The collection shares its name with the town in Kasur district, and the designs lean into folk embroidery: Kantha and gara-style florals, cross-stitch, cutwork and handmade tassels on rich winter shades. Each one is an unstitched three-piece, mostly karandi throughout, and the product pages list a shipping date of 5 November (one design, Merlot, ships on 12 November). Prices were checked on the brand’s site on Tuesday, 3 November.

Karandi is a slightly coarse, textured weave that holds embroidery well and keeps you warmer than cotton, so it is a good fabric for daytime weddings and family dawats in December.

Seven designs we liked

Juhi, plum (Rs 17,900). The entry price of the line. Multi-coloured floral embroidery on the neckline, daman and sleeves, geometric borders and tassels, plus an embroidered karandi shawl with a floral pallu. Plum flatters most skin tones.

Celadon, dark green (Rs 18,900). Gara-style florals with cutwork at the neck and sleeves, tassels on the daman, cutwork trousers and a chiffon dupatta. The chiffon makes it lighter to wear indoors.

Noori, rust orange (Rs 19,900). Cross-stitch embroidery with blue borders on the sleeves, and an ivory karandi shawl with a heavily embroidered body and a rust pallu. The most striking colour combination in the line.

Barkha, dark teal (Rs 21,900). Kantha florals across the front, embroidered borders, tassels, harem trousers and an embroidered karandi shawl. Harem trousers give it a younger, more relaxed shape.

Jahanara, black (Rs 21,900). Bright florals and borders on black, finished with a rust karandi dupatta. If you only buy one, black with rust will work at the most events.

Aaira, pista green (Rs 22,900). Bold florals with tassels on both shirt and trousers and a heavy shawl with deep aqua borders. Soft and fresh for a daytime mehndi.

Merlot, navy blue (Rs 22,900). Floral work with statement tassels and a light chiffon dupatta. Note the later shipping date of 12 November.

Styling and value

The embroidery is busy, so keep the stitching simple: a straight, mid-length shirt shows the daman work best. Pair with oxidised silver or antique gold jhumkas rather than kundan, and flat khussas. The shawls are heavy enough to replace a coat at most outdoor functions.

At Rs 17,900 to Rs 22,900 unstitched, this sits at the top of the winter unstitched market, and you will add tailoring on top. You are paying for the design work and a statement shawl. One design, Maya, was already sold out when we checked.
