Generation put a new line called Truck Art on its website on Tuesday, 3 November, and it is the most playful drop of the winter so far. The clothes are not printed with trucks: the name comes from the palette. Think the colours of a painted Bedford, turned into hand embroidery, little aina (mirror) pieces, tassels at the slits and loud checked bottoms. The sets cost Rs 11,698 to Rs 16,998. We picked six, and two suits from the new Chittara line that sits next to it. Prices were checked on Wednesday, 4 November.

What makes these different?

Most winter pret is a printed khaddar shirt with a plain trouser. Here every shirt is hand-embroidered on cambric, and the bottoms are yarn-dyed checked cambric in pink, green, blue and yellow, cut as farshi shalwar, gharara, culottes or a Jasmine-style shalwar. Cambric is not a winter-weight fabric, so treat these as autumn and indoor-winter clothes, or layer a shawl and a cardigan on top in December.

Six Truck Art picks

Colour Crafted Set (Rs 11,998). A sky blue (asmani) panelled kurta with scattered pink embroidery, aina work and tassels on the side slits, with a matching shalwar. It also comes in jet black and rani pink. The calmest piece in the line and the easiest to wear to a university or a family lunch.

Woven Tales Farshi Set (Rs 13,500). A black shirt with a buttoned placket, pockets and back pleats, paired with a checked farshi shalwar. The farshi is the star: wide, swishy and very photogenic at a dholki. Also in rani pink.

Heart & Thread Koti Set (Rs 16,998). The dressiest of the six: a black shirt with multicoloured embroidery, cinched puff cuffs and a short, front-open koti with heart-shaped tassels, over a checked shalwar. The koti can go over plain black kurtas later.

Rainbow Stitch Set (Rs 12,998). An A-line asmani shirt with bright embroidery down the placket and a checked, flared gharara. If you want one mehndi outfit that is not yellow, this is it.

Embroidered Phool Patti Set (Rs 12,500). A black panelled kurta with loop buttons and phool-patti embroidery on the bodice, sleeves and back, with checked culottes. Culottes make it the most practical for daily wear.

Embroidered Colour Story Set (Rs 11,698). A rani pink shirt with hand-stitch detail on the placket and sleeves and a flared, pleated back, over checked culottes. The cheapest in the line, and the boldest colour.

Also new: the Chittara line

For something quieter, the Hand Embroidered Anarkali Set (Rs 15,900) is a printed black anarkali with an angrakha neckline and dense embroidery on the bodice, and the Classic Handstitched Set (Rs 19,500) is a ruby red panelled kurta with long embroidered placket and embroidered shalwar borders. Both are in deluxe cambric and both also come in sand.

How to style them

Keep the jewellery silver or oxidised; gold fights with this palette. Plain khussas or kolhapuris, a black or camel shawl, and let the checks do the talking. Sizes run 8 to 16 on the brand’s site; the model in the photos wears a 10 at 5 feet 7.
