Elan, Khadija Shah’s label, has put out the second volume of its Tissue De Luxe formals, just as the winter wedding season gets going. There are ten designs, each sold two ways: as unstitched embroidered chiffon with organza borders (Rs 17,450 to Rs 26,450) or fully stitched by Elan (Rs 69,950 to Rs 99,950). We went through all ten on Elan’s own store on Monday, 2 November, and picked six.

A quick note on what the unstitched price gets you: three metres of embroidered chiffon for the shirt plus embroidered organza borders. There is no dupatta or trouser fabric in the box, so budget for a plain chiffon dupatta, a raw silk or crepe trouser and your tailor. The stitched versions add a bustier, trousers and, on some designs, an attached pallu.

The six we would wear to a wedding

Miel Doré (Rs 25,950) is the showpiece: a honey-gold chiffon covered in antique-silver embroidery and crystals, with a mustard-to-ivory dupatta in the shoot. Gold this rich wants simple jewellery, like one kundan choker or big jhumkas, not both. Ideal for a mehndi or a daytime nikkah.

Pêche Nacrée (Rs 26,450) is the softest of the lot: peach with silver embroidery and a beaded fringe, styled in the shoot as a long, open jacket over slim pants with an ombré pink dupatta. It suits a sister of the bride who wants to look polished without competing with the bridal red.

Douce Nuit (Rs 17,450) is the cheapest design and maybe the most useful. Black chiffon with silver arabesques reads very elegant at a winter walima, works for most skin tones, and you will wear it again.

Lune Opaline (Rs 18,950) goes icy blue to deep aqua with silver work. On a fair or wheatish complexion it glows under evening lights; pair it with silver or white-stone jewellery to keep the cool tone.

Pétrole Nocturne (Rs 21,950) is deep teal with antique-gold work, cut in the shoot as a jacket with a dhoti-style pant. It is the most fashion-forward option here, for the cousin who likes a modern silhouette.

Rosée d’Or (Rs 21,450) is coral-pink with gold embroidery and a beaded fringe, shown as a long straight shirt with a pink ombré dupatta. A safe, pretty choice for a baraat guest.

Is it worth the money?

At around Rs 20,000 before stitching, this is luxury pricing, but the embroidery covers most of the shirt and the borders are generous, so a good tailor can make it look close to the stitched version that costs four times as much. If you are short on time before a December wedding, the stitched pieces are listed with sizes S to L and are made to order, so check the delivery time on the product page before you pay.

All pieces are dry-clean only. Prices are as shown on Elan’s website on 2 November 2026 and may change.
