Faran Tahir in VisionQuest: Pakistani actor returns as Iron Man villain Raza after 18 years
Faran Tahir is back as Raza, the Ten Rings leader from Iron Man, in VisionQuest episode 6. What happens in his scenes and why fans in Pakistan are excited.

Light spoilers for VisionQuest episode 6 below.
Faran Tahir is back in the Marvel universe. The Pakistani-American actor returns as Raza Hamidmi al-Wazar, the Ten Rings commander who held Tony Stark captive in a cave in the very first Iron Man film, in episode 6 of Disney+’s VisionQuest. It is the character’s first appearance in 18 years, and since Thursday his name has been all over Pakistani entertainment pages.
Who is Raza?
In Iron Man (2008), Raza was the man in charge of the cave where Tony Stark built his first suit. He is, in a real sense, the first villain of the whole Marvel Cinematic Universe. At the end of that film Obadiah Stane turns on him and his men are gunned down, but the film never shows Raza’s body, and fans have joked about that loose thread for years.
News that Tahir would play Raza again first broke in January 2025, for the Vision series led by Paul Bettany and run by Terry Matalas.
What happens in episode 6
The episode, titled “Deadlock”, is set in Madripoor. Vision is caught in a tense standoff with the bounty hunter Paladin when Raza walks in with a heavily armed crew, also hunting Vision. Paladin recognises his voice, makes a crack about him still being alive, and the scene turns into a sword fight. Paladin wins and leaves Raza unconscious but alive.
The show does not explain how Raza survived Stane’s betrayal. He now seems to work on his own as a hired gun rather than as a Ten Rings commander.
What critics think
Reviews of the cameo are split. Some critics called the return underwhelming and said Raza is reduced to a disposable henchman. Others enjoyed it as a deep-cut callback to where the MCU began. On X, Marvel fan accounts shared the scene as the return of the MCU’s first villain after 18 years.
For Pakistani viewers the interest is simpler: one of our own is back in the biggest film franchise in the world. Because Raza is left alive, the door is open for him to return before the season ends.
Faran Tahir’s Pakistan connection

His grandparents were the writers Imtiaz Ali Taj, who wrote Anarkali, and Hijab Imtiaz Ali.
He trained in theatre at UC Berkeley and Harvard’s American Repertory Theater. His Hollywood work includes The Jungle Book (1994), Star Trek (2009), where he played Captain Robau, and Elysium (2013). Pakistani audiences also saw him as Laqqa in the fantasy film Umro Ayyar: A New Beginning (2024).
