Spoiler warning: this breakdown covers everything that happens in Mitti De Baway Episode 12, which aired on Green TV on Wednesday, 29 October.

Mitti De Baway Episode 12 is the episode where Billo (Mahira Khan) stops reacting and starts acting. By the end, Peer Murshid, the man she married, is dead, and she has his signature on blank sheets of paper. The official upload passed four million views on YouTube within hours of going online, which tells you how many people were waiting for this turn. (Catch up on Episode 11 and Episode 10 first if you are behind.)

What happened in Mitti De Baway Episode 12?

The episode picks up the doubt that has been growing since Akbar Shah made his allegations about Bilqees’s past. Peer Murshid is now suspicious of her, and Billo is hurt and angry that he will not simply trust her.

She does not argue her case. Instead, she quietly gets him to sign blank papers. Then, in the scene everyone is talking about, she gives him his medicine. His health gets worse, and he dies before he can settle the question of who his wife really is.

Whether she meant it, and what she plans to write on those papers, is the cliffhanger.

On the other side of the story, Baala (Wahaj Ali) is still refusing to go back to his family in Lahore after he was wounded in a robbery, and has grown close to Qamrunnisa (Hina Afridi). The episode 12 promo had hinted at a wedding; the episode keeps that thread simmering rather than tying it up.

Why Billo’s turn matters

After Episode 10, when Billo agreed to marry the Peer, fans online started calling her a “master manipulator”. Episode 12 is the payoff to that label. For eleven episodes Mahira Khan’s Billo was someone things happened to: her family’s honour, her husband, Baala’s anger. Here she is the one holding the papers.

It is a risky move for Faiza Iftikhar’s script, because the show has spent a lot of time making us feel for Billo. Running Baala’s gentler track with Qamrunnisa alongside it sharpens the contrast between the two lovers.

Is Billo now a villain?

Not yet, and the writing seems to know it. The drama’s own synopsis says Billo and Baala are pulled together three times in their lives, and that an old enemy returns at the end. Billo gaining power and money through the Peer’s papers sets up the next part of that story. How the show handles her guilt will decide whether viewers stay with her.
